Medicare’s chiropractic coverage is strictly limited to manipulation of the spine to correct a subluxation. No other chiropractic services or products will be paid by Medicare. Chiropractors may enroll as DMEPOS suppliers, but unlike medical doctors they are not exempt from accreditation and surety bond requirements.
In order for a Chiropractor to enroll as a DMEPOS supplier, there must be a complete application submitted, acquire accreditation from a CMS recognized accrediting body (see a list here), and obtain a surety bond of not less than $50,000 per NPI registered.
If a chiropractor is a partner in a group of MD/DOs, the physician enrollment exemptions will apply. This is true even if there is only one other MD/DO in the group. However, if the groups’ partners are all chiropractors with an MD/DO as an employee, the group does not qualify for any physician enrollment exceptions.
