The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has issued Bulletin Number MMP 22-38 to re-establish provider enrollment and revalidation rules. Bulletin MSA 20-28 was issued in April 2020 to relax enrollment requirements and to suspend the provider revalidation process during the height of the public health crisis. This Bulletin MMP 22-38 goes into effect on December 1, 2022 and reinstates the following

  • Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System (CHAMPS) enrollment revalidations conducted through CHAMPS will be reinstated. MDHHS will begin to notify providers in November 2022 of their rescheduled revalidation date. Revalidation dates will be assigned on a rolling basis beginning with providers who have had the longest revalidation pause. Providers may also view their rescheduled revalidation date in CHAMPS
  • Site visits for prospective and current providers are reinstated. Site visits will be performed following all state and federal public health guidelines, such as masking and social distancing. MMP 22-38 Page 2 of 2
  • Fingerprint-based criminal background checks associated with providers in the high-risk level category are reinstated.
  • Enrollment application fees are reinstated. Providers who had their fees waived under Bulletin MSA 20-28 will be required to pay the waived fee. Providers may still request a hardship waiver per CMS guidelines. This will only be granted after MDHHS has received approval from CMS to provide the waiver to the provider.

nCred is noticing that many payors throughout the country and implementing similar measures to claw back relaxed provider enrollment restrictions implemented during the pandemic. We think this is partially responsible for the increased turnaround times in provider enrollment at payor networks nationally. The provider enrollment process can be lengthy and frustrating. The best advice for a practitioner starting a new practice is to begin the process as soon as possible.

nCred works with practitioners throughout the country to assist in the provider enrollment process. We work with practitioners in every state and can assist with any payor network participation request that you would like to submit.
