With little direction from the federal government, more states are leaning towards the federal insurance exchange to meet coverage requirements of the Affordable Care Act. Open enrollment for insurance exchanges for 2014 begins in October 2013, so a lot needs to happen in a short period of time to get ready for the influx of new insured lives.  So far 25 states have said they will leave the setup and administration of the exchange to the federal government. 18 states have elected to run their own insurance exchange.  The third option of a partnership with federal exchange has been elected by only 2 states.
